Cody Betton UGC 211 The immigration of Germans to America was the first time immigrants were treated somewhat warmly. They came here as skilled workers and were able to settle in agricultural areas better. The Germans came to America with the intention to use their skills to make money and eventually return home. However their arrival to America was perfect timing. Their strong sense of work ethic coupled with being trained and skilled workers, helped bring America into the industrial revolution. In Melvin Holli’s article we learn that German born immigrants would become the highest paid foreign born group in America. This would cause them to reach the middle class faster than any other immigrant group. This caused many Americans to see the Germans as the ideal immigrant group. Holli explains that German-Americans were voted the most favored nationality by several US cities. They arrived here skilled and used their skills to help America advance technologically. They also brought over their style of music as well as theater. However
