The Rise of Big Business 1865-1890, history post 1865 18:32 I.       Business Before the Civil War Nature was primarily local business, small individually owned business were the most  common type Just about everything was local, groceries, furniture, building… Island community’s- each city/town were isolated for the most part, peoples lives are  confined geographically. War teaches people how to coordinate huge numbers of men over vast amount of  territory’s, so people start to learn how to work and acquire things from other places The war took national coordination, and after the war business men took the war ideas  and used them in their business’s.  After civil war, business grew on a larger, national scale bc the war taught business men  how to expand   II.      The Corporation After reconstruction, the country as a whole wanted the govt to help protect business  and economy               laissez faire economics economy that is free from govt influence
