Themes from class discussion: Change over time Learning: cultural, societal, family influences Growth: Biological influences GROWTH, PROGRESS, CHANGE Many kinds of change in life affect behavior, produce growth KINDS OF CHANGE: 1. LIFE EVENTS: not developmental changes Changes over the lifecourse: marriage, having children, etc. Behavior, identity, etc. changes. 2. COHORT EFFECTS: not developmental changes Historical, cultural, economic changes. Opportunities, lifestyles, attitudes, communication, patterns, etc. Cell phones- constant communication; Facebook, etc. 3.
