46-49, pp.129-136 Schwalbe, Chapter 4 (pps. 127-139) Project Objective: 1 or 2 sentence statement summarizing the deliverable or result of the project. WBS : deliverable-oriented grouping of work in involved in a project that defines the total scope of the project. Breaks all the work into discrete tasks and grouped into a logical hierarchy where the highest level is the project and the lowest levels are the work packages. Approaches Using guidelines: use existing guidelines to develop wbs Analogy approach : use similar project WBS as starting point Top down approach/Decomposition : Break down the work Bottom up approach : start with specific tasks, then organize into summary activities or higher levels in the WBS Mind mapping approach : branches radiating out of core idea. WBS dictionary : Document that describes WBS tasks in detail. Work needed done, how it will be carried out, by whom, how long, cost/material, project title, item # (WBS Code), item name, description. Scope baseline: formed with the approved project scope statement and its associated WBS and WBS dictionary. Planning process group : processes performed to establish the total scope of the effort, define and refine the objectives, and develop the course of action required to attain those objectives and develop the project management plan and project
