In 1972 Nixon announced in Peking that they would establish formal diplomatic relations with them Shanghai Communiqé He met with Chou-en Lai Nixon uses the new relations with China to inFuence SALT and other agreements with the USSR The Committee to Re-elect the President had 5 members caught in the Watergate complex Scirica is the judge who tries the individuals Bernstein and Woodward were Washington Post journalists which wrote about the Watergate scandal George McGovern with running mate Schriver ran against Nixon and lost in the 1972 election Title IX passed making no sexual discrimination in education In 1973 John Dean was the legal council for Nixon in the Senate Ervin Committee Hearings Discovered that there was an automatic taping system in the oval of±ce Revealed a Nixon who was very conscious of his enemies, obstructing justice, and a frequent user of expletives Nixon originally gave an edited version of the tapes The draft was ended in 1973
