REVIEW SHEET - SECOND EXAM FNR 103 INTRO. TO ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION The following are the main topics and terms covered since the first exam. If you know the definitions of these terms, and are generally familiar with the concepts, you should be prepared. When a specific example was given in class, know the general facts about the example, and what topic was being illustrated. Use the outlines given at the start of class, and materials shown as overheads as guides. The book should be used for review of topics that were not clear in class. ________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Setting land aside for preservation versus active use – what federal lands fall into which category? Multiple use, wise use: what is the dominant land management strategy now? Arctic National Wildlife Refuge – what is the conflict there? Theodore Roosevelt. 2. Renewable versus sustainable resource use: economic and ecological definitions. Private versus public ownership of forest land in Indiana. NEPA of 1970: required environmental impact statements and “maintaining viable populations.” Common forestry practices (clearcutting, selection cutting, even-aged or uneven-aged forests).
