HW 6 Due March 10 Problems 1-3 are challenging problems. You are encouraged to work on them yourself first. Then if you have problems, meet with some of your classmates to discuss them. 1. Solve this problem using EES individually. Steam at 450 psia and 550˚F is flowing in a pipe. A rigid tank containing steam at 550˚F and 45 psia is connected to the steam pipeline through a valve. At a certain time, the valve is opened and steam flows into the tank until the pressure in the tank reaches that in the pipeline. Then the valve is closed. The process is adiabatic, and the steam velocity in the pipeline is low. Determine the final temperature of the steam in the tank after equilibrium is reached. 2. hint: Use the ideal gas law to solve for masses, and use h=c p T and u=c v T. 3. A tank of 2 m 3 volume contains saturated R 134a at a temperature of 40°C. Initially the tank contains 60% liquid and 40% vapor by volume.
