Write down the three forms of the 1 st law that we used in class for closed systems, steady state control volumes, and uniform flow unsteady processes. Indicate which equation is for which form. For the remaining questions, do not use your book, and work on these problems alone. The goal is to help you improve your process of setting up 1 st law problems when you dont have example problems to follow. For each problem, choose the appropriate form of the first law, and simplify as much as possible. If the boundary work equation or the ideal gas equation must be used to solve the problem, include those as well. Do not take the problems any further. 1. Idea gas A enters a heat exchanger with a given mass flow rate, inlet temperature, and inlet pressure. The exit temperature is also known. The specific heats c p and c v are known. Water cools Gas A.
