To: Virginia Flanders From: Sarah Lowery Date: 20 January 2011 Re: Involvement of Online Information in Company’s Standard Hiring Process The use of internet searches of potential candidates for open positions at Hathaway Jones should be enforced. As a recent hire for the company, I realize the importance of a first-impression interview and an outstanding resume; however, there are many other parameters that can be hidden during the initial screening that may turn a perfect candidate on paper into a company’s worst nightmare. Producing a More Productive Workplace Of course Hathaway Jones strives to hire the best employees possible, but it is often difficult to do so with so many applicants. I feel that a simple Internet-based search of each candidate can help the process by filtering out the applicants whose results show discrepancies either between their applications or between the core values of the company. Such discrepancies can raise red flags: Inconsistency between information on a LinkedIn account and an actual resume (i.e., different
