Case Scenario: What Would You Do?
In the course text for this week, I identified two cases that show similarities to the case scenario, Gender Identity in a Religious Community (Laureate Education Inc., (2015). Cases 7.3 Timmy's Gender Non-Conformity and 9.4 Two Moms (Gorski & Pothini (2018) these are two situations that, like Gender Identity in a Religious Community (Laureate Education Inc., (2015), highlight the discrimination of students with issues of sexual identity experienced daily in many schools in the world. In Cases 7.3 Timmy is the recipient of taunts from his classmates because he displays feminine qualities whereas in the case 9.4 Two Moms, the classmates were open, curious and respectful to the fact that Denise had two moms, but their parents opposed the teacher for presenting the taboo subject in the classroom to which they did not desire their children to be exposed. Billy, the student of focus in the scenario, experienced both issues: one, he had same-sex parents, and two, his wardrobe was transgender. He experienced classmates who rejected his transgender appearance and parents of those children who did not want their children to associate with him.
