In this essay, you will cover three categories of painting styles: Impressionist, Post- Impressionist, and Modern (for the latter, selecting one of the several types of modern art in the 20th century). Describe each type of painting using specific examples. Which do you prefer— and why? Impressionist art is a style in which the artist captures the image of an object as someone would see it if they just caught a glimpse of it. They paint the pictures with a lot of color and most of their pictures are outdoor scenes. Their pictures are very bright and vibrant. The artists like to capture their images without detail but with bold colors. Some of the greatest impressionist artists were Edouard Manet, Camille Pissaro, Edgar Degas, Alfred Sisley, Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot and Pierre Auguste Renoir. Post-Impressionism follows Impressionism. Post-Impressionism is a French art movement in early Modernism, also known as Synthetism. The artists showed a greater concern for expression, structure and form than did the Impressionist artists. Some of the famous artists include Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, and Felix Vallotton. Modern Impressionism fused both styles together. Using bright colors as well as giving attention to detail with in the works. I myself prefer the modern style. I like being able to see the detail in the painting along with the bright colors. On artist that comes to mind is Edward H. Potthast’s Rockbound Coast. This was painted on oil canvas and the painter gives a lot of detail to the rocks and the ocean. I almost feel as though I am standing at the top of the rock with the other people. Standing there watching the waves rushing against the rocks, smelling the fresh ocean and feeling at peace in that moment....
