CSE 120 Optional Exercises Solutions. 1) b 2) b 3) c 4) b 5) c 6) First p1 is used to lookup the entry in the primary page table. This entry contains the address for the secondary page table. Then p2 is used to lookup the entry in the secondary page table. The entry in the secondary page table contains the physical page number which is added to d in order to get the physical address. 7) Effective memory access time = e + p1*[m + p2*(d+m) + (1-p2)*(m)] + (1-p1)*[m] Each access will involve a TLB access (e). Then p1 proportion of the time there will be a TLB miss, and (1-p1) proportion of the time there will not be a TLB miss. When there isn't a TLB miss, only a memory access is needed (m) to read the data into a CPU register. When there is a TLB miss, a memory access is needed (m) to read from the page table. Then p2 proportion of the time there will be a page fault that takes (d) time to service, followed by a memory access (m) to read the data into some CPU register. (1-p2) proportion of the time there will be no page fault, so only a memory access (m) is needed to read data into a CPU register.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
