Kimberly Small POL 101-Section 5 John Jay College Prof Katsanos Midterm Essay Every four years there is a presidential election. Firstly, to even be considered as a candidate you have to be a citizen that was born in the United States, at least thirty five years old and a U.S resident for at least fourteen years. There are many processes to become the official president nominee you have to be elected by the people by either a caucuses or primaries election and win the majority vote of delegates at the states national convention. Primaries and caucuses are different because primaries can be either closed or open but most primary states you have to be registered to vote. Also, it’s a private decision but you're open to vote for anyone. Caucuses is a group activity, it goes on for hours until a unanimous decision is made. After all the results come in from primaries and caucuses then who ever has the most votes becomes the presidential candidate for that political party. The 2020 democratic presidential candidate is John Biden.
