DQ 1: Who is Phineas Gage? What impact did he have on the realm of biological psychology? Discussion question responses should reflect critical thought and analysis. Phineas Gage is probably the most famous person to have survived severe damage to the brain. He was injured in an explosion when an iron bar went through the left side of his face below his left eye and came out the top of his head, destroying one or both of his frontal lobes. Dr. John Martyn Harlow, the attending physician, had the opinion that Gage's left frontal lobe had been destroyed, and a recent study by Ratiu and Talos in 2004 used CT and MRI scans to confirm that the damage appears to have been confined to the left frontal
