Sierra Fortune The transportation of sediment is an important aspect in understanding the complex processes that form our coasts. The geology of Florida’s coastline is particularly interesting. The mainland of Florida is primarily dominated by silica-based quartz sands. However, the Florida Keys are dominated by carbonate-based sands composed of either algae and coral fragments or ooids. Since Florida’s underlying geology is composed of limestone, then it seems that the sands found coasts should be carbonate-based. Since the sands are not, in fact, carbonate-based, this leaves us with two major questions: where is this sediment coming from, and why does it stop at the Keys. In order to answer these questions, data was collected along both sides of the Florida coast from north to south. This data included sediment sample from the beaches, as well as sediment cores. This information is used to help determine the source of the material. The core samples were used to help determine the chronology of the sediments, which is useful in identifying the distances in which the sediments have traveled. I feel your topic is a little broad. I understand the questions you are trying to address and why it is important, but I dont understand how your planning to do your project. Also, to a non geologist, this project might need to be looked at a little closer to explain why exactly it is important to the general public. Also, your closing is not very finalized. You should reword it to make it a little more conclusion like....
