Church History 13 Warren Smith Wednesday, October 01, 2008 12A Athanasius: Book by Francis Young – the Making of the Creeds If Jesus isn’t divine, than we have no salvation!  So Arianism was condemned. Arius: God is created.  It is the creature, the created takes on human form.  The wisdom and logos were  created.  “There was a time when he was not.” a. God stands above the world in a way that can’t be manifest, there needs to be a  mediator. b. To Arius, God could NOT suffer and die.  He is impassable. God is a monad.  There is no Trinity.  This was condemned in 325 at Nicea. Apollinariansim: The Logos comes to live in Jesus’ body so that the Logos is the only ruling principle in Jesus’s  body and kicks out the human soul.  The human soul doesn’t exist.    The word dwelling in flesh  taken to its extreme.  Not a creature, one of the persons of the Trinity.
