TODAY’S TOPIC: POSTMODERNISM - DECONSTRUCTION _ POSTMODERNISM _ DECONSTRUCTION _ Deconstruction is a ‘postmodern’ tendency. Deconstruction critiques ‘modern’ and ‘postmodern’ theories _ Deconstruction critiques modern and postmodern theories. _ Same criticism to modern than postmodern. _ But disagrees with postmodern in term of recurring again to ancient styles. _ While postmodernism returned to embrace— often slyly or ironically—the historical references that modernism had shunned, deconstructivism rejects the postmodern acceptance of such references. It also rejects the idea of ornament as an after-thought or decoration. _ Based on literally theory by Jacques Derrida: attempts to demonstrate that any text has not only one, but several and contradictory meanings; that any text therefore has more than one interpretation.
