Opening the mail and approving checks for the company should be done separately. Multiple people should be present for this process. c. Authorizing payment of invoices and preparing checks should be done separately. d. No employee should be given open access to the storeroom and the inventory ledger. e. Custody of the checks and posting to the A/R ledger should be done separately. f. A supervisor should be necessary for this transaction to take place. The purchase returns area should be kept clean so that returns can’t be hidden. Bags and other personal belongings should be held in an area separate from the checkout counter. g. Purchase orders sent to the unpacking area should not list how many items were ordered. This will help to ensure that all shipments are counted and recorded properly. h.
