They used conjuration to gain power over their white oppressors, by showing that blacks are capable of more power than white masters and slave-owners thought possible. According to Chesnutts story, how did white people respond to the idea of conjure? Did they take it seriously? They became angry because of the idea of conjure, lashing out on their slaves. During this idea of conjuration, one person used the power of conjuration for group liberation and the white man, who has power, loses his power and grip on reality. Now, the slaves increased autonomy allows them to do as they wish....
