Alexandra Nass MUET200 TA: Deborah Byrd February 13, 2012 Stone “Gender, Identity and Ethnicity Issues” Focus Questions: 1. Based on the brief summary of feminism, gender, and sexuality in Stone, give an example of how one of these issues is expressed in music that you are familiar with. If you were a researcher in ethnomusicology, how do you think your gender or sexuality might affect your fieldwork? In modern day society’s pop music or rap music, there is a common occurance of singing about love and gender, as well as sexuality within it. Preeminent artist, such as Beyonce sings “ If I were a boy”. Within this song she discusses the issue of patriarchy, and the stereotypes made against women in the eyes of a women’s perspective. This song demonstrates the common social issues faced in today’s society such as gender, feminism, and sexuality. Researchers in ethnomusicology can be effected by gender or sexuality within the field of work because of the musical practices that are analyzed and
