Context - the historical, economic, social, and cultural factors that influence our mental processes and behavior B.Behavior - doesn’t occur in a vacuum~ needs to be understood at the societal, Economic, social, and cultural level -Urie Bronfenbrenner- came up w/ idea of theory of context -Theory of context (4 systems): helps organize factors that influence 1.Micro- psychologists work w/ individual, sense Of thoughts, psycho-therapy 2. Meso- family, school, friendship, social relationships 3. Exo- community, context w/ neighborhood, & work environments 4. Macro- Larger Societal (media, Gov., poverty, culture) -Neighborhood- violence, low academic achievement (micro) -Small micro- larger micro -Changes in economic policies, how schools operate( macro) 2. Culture A. Culture - the shared values, norms, traditions, customs, arts, history, folklore, and Instutions of a group of people
