February 9, 2012 The Goofer Grapevine (fiction) Narrator from Ohio in the South coming to North Carolina in the North Looking to buy some land Come upon a person named Uncle Julius who is on this land and he tells them a story The story within a story is: o The land is goofered and there’s this plantation where people live on this vineyard that are enslaved to work and they are taking things that they have produced. o This is an active resistance (infra politics) because something is happening behind the masters back o The slave holder couldn’t stop the enslaves from taking things so he is forced to visit Aunt Peggy who is a conjure o The power of conjure could stop the enslaved from taking the grapes o Aunt Peggy comes in and lets everyone know there is something wrong with the grapes o People were poisoned o Henry is the new field hand, he eats the grapes and gets sick o Her help makes his hair curl up and now he is sort of linked to the natural world because he gets stronger as the grapes blossom and
