The human body contains more than 700 muscles The face alone has 44 muscles and 2 bones – skull and jaw – but those muscles are not attached to the bone, which gives us huge mobility for facial expression Use non-verbal communication to enhance and emphasize the message…without distracting from the message. Common Delivery Problems: Rate of Speech Use punctuation, phrases, and delivery cues to guide delivery Sloppy Speech – diction/enunciation that isn’t clear, mispronunciations Pronunciation guide Make sure to pronounce consonants; they provide clarity Uptalk – rising intonation that makes statements sound like questions Sounds tentative Bring your intonation down at every period Fillers or inarticulates Um, ah, like, you know Use pause Speech Anxiety Nervousness is actually the adrenaline you need to get through the presentation Make it productive Breathe, hold, exhale, hold – each for count of 4 Memorize the first few opening sentences of your presentation Remember the 24% rule
