Anthropology 154 Notes 1. Anthropology is the exploration of human diversity though time and space and the study of human species and our immediate ancestors. 2. Anthropology links with science in the academic field which is the field of study or body of knowledge that aims through experiment and observation. 3. Culture is transmitted through learning traditions and customs. 4. Variation is the processes by which organisms cope with environmental forces and stresses such as climate and topography. o Long term physiological adaptation involves growth and development o Short term physiological acclimatization occurs spontaneously. 5. Biological Anthropology studies all aspects of present and past human biology including evolution and unites five special interests o Human evolution o Human genetics o Human growth and development o Human variation o Primatology or our closet non human relatives 6. General Anthropology is the study of linguistics or language in its social and cultural context and universal features of language. o
