Unformatted text preview: Pre-lab #13 Part I. A 1. Use paper towel to wipe the temperature probe o be sure it’s dry 2. Assemble your apparatus as shown on figure page 2, expt 13 3. Make sure the test tube is clean and dry 4. Insert the stopper with the temperature probe and wire stirrer into the test tube 5. Make sure that the stopper does not extend further than halfway into the test tube 6. Be sure that the temperature probe is not touching the sides or bottom of the test tube and that it’s pushed down as far as possible 7. Dispense 12.0 mL of cyclohexane into the test tube 8. Calculate the mass of cyclohexane dispensed 9. Place the stopper with the temperature probe and stirrer in the test tube 10. Set the test tube in a test tube rack 11. Make sure that the wire stirrer can move freely in the test tube 12. Be sure that the tip of the probe is in the center of the volume of liquid 13. Fill the largest beaker you have with water until it’s 1/3 full 14. Add ice until the beaker is ¾ full 15. Click the Collect button when you are ready 16. Move the test tube from the rack into the ice-water bath 17. Hold the test tube such that the level of liquid in the test tube is below the level of water in the bath 18. Begin stirring the liquid immediately. Do this continuously and at a constant rate 18....
