6.2: The past/imperfect Subjunctive 1) To get the past subjunctive stem, you have to know how to conjugate the “ellos” form of the verb in the preterite Ex: tener = tuvieron 2) Next, drop the “-ron” Ex: tuvieron = tuvie 3) Finally add the ends on for the past subjunctive: a) Endings are the same for ALL –ar, -er, and –ir verbs b) There are NO irregular verbs in the past subjunctive BUT you must know the irregular preterite verbs in order to conjugate! The past subjunctive endings: Yo: -ra Tú: -ras El/ella/Ud.: -ra Nosotros: -ramos Vosotros -rais Ellos/Ellas/Uds -ran Ex: Yo: tuviera Tú: tuvieras El/ella/Ud.: tuviera Nosotros: tuviéramos Vosotros tuvierais Ellos/Ellas/Uds tuvieran When to use the past/imperfect Subjunctive: You should have all of these things to indicate that the past/imperfect subjunctive should
