Gun Safety Imagine being back in high school. It is your junior year, and you and your best friend are hanging out at your house. Your friend happens to find a gun that was not properly stored away. He shows you the gun, not to play with, but to let you know that it is there out in the open. Suddenly, the gun goes off and you wake up in an ambulance with a bullet lodged in your neck. This was the case with one of my friends, Sebastian, who I went to high school with. Now, I know that this is probably not the first scenarios that you guys have heard like this. Unfortunately, situations similar to this and others happen way too often. Although the number of gun related accidents, specifically in the home, has been declining in recent years according to the NRA website, the numbers are still greater than what they ever should be. But don’t get me wrong, my goal is not to try to ban or put any more restrictions on gun ownership or usage. In this speech I simply plan on informing you briefly about the dangers of not practicing gun safety in the home, and hopefully persuade you to not only practice gun safety, but to pass the word on to others as well. It is estimated that half of all American households have firearms. Although most of these guns are purchased for safety reasons, it is important to keep in mind that a firearm in the home is much more likely (up to 43 times more likely in some reports) to kill or injure
