John Quincy Adams Presidential Outline I. Name: John Quincy Adams II. State of Birth/State which he ran for President: Massachusetts III. Educational and Occupational Background: He acquired his early education in Europe, such as the University of Leiden. He returned to America and graduated from Harvard in 1787. He was a minister to the Netherlands and Portugal as well as Prussia. He was secretary of state under James Monroe. IV. Dates of Term/Terms of Office: March 4 th , 1825 – March 3 rd , 1829 V. Prominent Issues in Election: It was a realigning election. The Democratic- Republican Party had four candidates. This would ultimately lead to Democratics and Republicans. This was the first time the election was given to the House of Representatives since the 12 th amendment. VI. Opponents: All democratic-republican – Andrew Jackson, William H. Crawford, Henry Clay VII. Vice President: John Caldwell Calhoun VIII. Political Party: Democratic-Republican IX. Major Domestic Happenings:
