Metric Precision Lab Anthony Petrillo Adv. Physics 25 August 2011 The object of this lab was to find the volume and mass of 3 solids and a liquid and calculate their densities and to determine the composition of these objects. We will use skills that we have learned in class such as taking measurements with measuring instruments and calculating using significant figures. Mass and volume will be calculated, and mass will be divided by volume to determine density. These values will be compared to the accepted values and the percent error of our experiment will be determined after the material has been identified. We expect that when mass is divided by volume to determine density, the results will be consistent with the accepted values shown on the Metric Precision Lab handout. Procedures: 1. Gather the required materials. 2. Determine the mass of the first solid using a balance. Record the results in your lab notes. 3.
