Mon/Wed 8-9:15 AM Sabiha Sungur Extra Credit: Benjamin Franklin 1. What was Franklin’s epitaph written for himself in 1728? Benjamin Franklin liked satirical and humorous writing. A printer at age 22, he wrote a verse as an epitaph which he presented to his friends throughout his life. In his epitaph written in 3 rd person, he writes about how he is now (at death) nothing but a name, “like the Cover of an old Book”. He believes that he will be reborn in a better condition, by an “Author”. “Author” is written in capital letters, which may symbolize that he believes in a deity and the afterworld. Also, since he writes “new & more perfect Edition”, it suggests that he may have believed that he would go to heaven. 2. What was the relationship between Franklin and Anthony  Benezet? Anthony Benezet was a Philadelphian abolitionist and educator. He advocated the rights and freedom of African Americans, and fought against slavery.
