Examine scatterplot (quantitative bivariate data) for relationship: direction (positively sloped, negatively sloped), form (linear, nonlinear), strength (strong, weak) A scatterplot can have two quantitative variables and one categorical variable. The least squares regression line passes through the (x, y) point. The mean of the least-squares residuals is always zero. A change of one standard deviation in x corresponds to a change of r standard deviations in y. Outliers in the X direction are often influential. Influential observations may have small residuals. Not all outliers are influential observations. Probability Terminology: Sample Space: The list of all possible outcomes of a random phenomenon. Event: A single outcome or a subset of outcomes from the sample space. Probability model: A mathematical description of a random phenomenon consisting of a sample space and a way of assigning probabilities to events. Probability of an outcome: A measure of the proportion of times an outcome occurs in a very long series of repetitions that gives us an indication of the likelihood of the outcome.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
