Introduction: This lab was designed to introduce us to losses in fiber due to misalignment. The following procedures/steps were performed to measure the losses. Figure 1: Measuring losses due to core separation. Assemble the components as shown in diagram 7-A. Set the scope in XY mode with channel 1 displays the voltage directly proportional to the gap between the transmission and receiving fiber. Figure 1 - Core Separation The output from the scope was recorded and is displayed below. As the gap decreases the transmitted signal increases. Figure 2:
