LZDDIN001 Politics Assignment 2 Word count: 303 A trend has formed within many states in which their political systems have evolved from traditional to more modern models. This essay will attempt to explain how states benefit from this progress, how this change comes about and evaluate these questions through an example of this development. Traditional societies and modern societies are viewed to be contradicting political systems. Traditional is focused largely on the emphasis of status and by organic hierarchies where as Modernity is structured on the basis of democratic processes and of contractual agreement (Heywood, 2002: 221). Most societies benefited from this development towards modernity, but there will always be traces of traditional systems within these modern states and vise versa with more traditional societies containing inherent characteristics of modernity.
