Global Studies-Jigsaw Group 5 13:31 Environment and Consumption What is the main argument? That consumption is the main cause of environmental degradation By focusing on one specific area of consumption-the environment takes a toll Additionally-by consuming more than necessary we are hurting our earth and taking  away other resources  Mindless consumption aka unchecked or unlimited consumption, the meat industry  being an example What were some key terms/concepts Ecological footprint The amount of land that is needed for resources as well as waste storage for each  person  An example being how the US compares to other countries in energy/land usage Meat Industry 284 million tons of meat processed yearly (2007) Clearly that’s a problem since it is taking away from other crops Uses: Wheat, water, land space  Causes environmental damage in terms of waste and gas imbalance
