Elise Kim I went to the 11:30- 1:00 panel that was called, “Sexuality, Desire, Identity: Terrains of Sexual Knowledge”, where four women, and one man, Matt Richardson, spoke. Judith Gardiner, an English and Women’s Studies professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, talked about female masculinity. According to her speech, female masculinity was a psychological syndrome where a woman thought that she was not homosexual because she believed that there was a penis inside her. Freud and Staller called this phenomenon penis disillusion. She mentioned Butler, who claimed that these phallic lesbians are a betrayal of lesbians because they desire to become a man and that they envy the penis because it represents power. Gardiner concluded her speech by asking the audience to undo the gender by undoing old theories. The next speaker was Leisa D. Meyer, who is an Associate Professor of History and American Studies at the College of William and Mary. She talked about sexuality of America
