As what Gerstle states, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as the president of United State during that period, had a lot of similarities with his cousin - Theodore Roosevelt. FDR actually inherited TR's idea that he conceived of the nation as a whole that united together rather than separated in "any particular class, region, or interest."(p.132) Moreover, FDR , just like what TR, was particularly contemptuous elites, that seemed consumed by the pursuit of wealth and heedless of the "higher life." (p.132) Besides, we could find impacts of TR's New Nationalism are everywhere in FDR's First New Deal. For instance, the National Recovery Administration (NRA) which is the main idea of FDR's First New Deal "bore the imprint of TR's economic philosophy."(Gerstle, p.133) The NRA is very close to the New Nationalism since both of them have the endorsement of large corporations and government regulation.
