Ricardo Ruiz-Gonzalez Jr. Comm 101-008 (11:40am) 1/23/2012 Communication Activity #1 When I was done reading chapter two I came out with a different way of perceiving people. I applied the “Sharpen Your Skill” activity of “Perceiving Others” to a recent meeting I had with a new person. His name is Johnny and he is interested in my fraternity. I had to meet him to see if he was the type of guy we would accept. At first glance I found myself classifying him as “nerd”. I didn’t mean to do that in a disrespectful manner the word nerd to me means a more studious type of person and who is more dedicated to his school work than social life. This is the type of guy we look for. Going into the meeting I had categorized him as a potential new member which during our conversation I was analyzing him in my mind while we spoke. As we spoke I noticed my “personal constructs” that I was using to asses Johnny. I focused on his physical characteristics and came to the conclusion that he was a mildly unattractive man.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
