Kelsey Knutsen Music for Listeners – section 2 “Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.” Different people listen to music or create music for different reasons. Different instruments create different pitches, different feelings. Different people perceive and perform in different ways. To see a band come together and be able to witness all of the different instruments playing together in harmony is a great feat. On Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 7:30 the SUNY Oneonta concert band performed in the Hunt Union Ballroom and displayed themselves as a beautifully organized ensemble. They played a number of pieces, one of which included A Trumpeter’s Lullaby , originally written by Leroy Anderson and composed by P. J. Lang. The piece started off very soft. In general this piece was gentle and smooth. They incorporated a lot of rubato into the music. The trumpet soloist carried the melody while the accompanying band carried the harmony of the
