Bowie Expt. 15: Diels-Alder Reaction: 9,10-Dihydroanthracene-9,10- , -succinic Acid Anhydride Objective The purpose of this experiment is to investigate a Diels-Alder reaction, and an aromatic ring system is used as a diene substrate for this addition reaction. The Anthracene reacts with Maleic Anhydride to form a 9,10 dihydroanthracene- , - succinic acid anhydride. Procedure The procedure was followed as described in Mayo, pages 269-273, with the modifications listed in the Canvas document.
