Western modernized ‘Development’ (the idea) as cultural - Enlightenment values - Modernization and the idea of progress - What is the enlightenment? o the enlightenment positions an old order, into a new order o breaking people away from the surpreme authority of the church o allowing the notion that people can transcend class in terms of social status o opens up shift of understanding Modernization theory and development Stage 1: Traditional society Stage2: Transitional stage Stage 3: take off
