In this experiment, the process of photosynthesis is investigated, as well as the effect of different metabolic poisons on the Chlamy’ ATP production. Chlorophyll is the main driver for photosynthesis, and thus, due to the green color of the organelle, is expected to be most effective under blue light, as the blue wavelength would be best absorbed and utilized for photosynthesis. The different metabolic poisons both should affect ATP production, but the azide should completely halt ATP production as the poison inhibits the ETC, an essential step in cellular respiration. The DCMU is a photosystems II inhibitor that should stop photosynthesis all together, but due to stored energy, some ATP production should still occur.
