Photosynthesis LabObjectives1.Construct an action spectrum and describe the effect of light on photosynthetic organisms.2.Describe the effect of metabolic poisons on photosynthesis.3.Describe and explain the effect of metabolic poisons on the ability to convert light and chemical energy to kinetic energy.Safety1.Closed-toe shoes must be worn2.Long hair tied back3.Goggles must be worn at all times while experiments are being conducted in the classroom. Even if you’re done.4.Gloves should be worn while performing the experiments.5.All pipet tips should be ejected into the tip waste bin on your bench.6.All Chlamydomonas containing sodium azide reagent should be poured into the azide waste container, and all Chlamydomonas containing DCMU should be poured in to the DCMU waste container on the side bench. Remember to put the lid back on when you are done.7.Rinse your motility chambers in the sink and place them back on your bench when finished.8.When all experiments and clean up is complete, wash your hands with soap and water.Lab Activity 1: What wavelength of light is most effective at driving photosynthesis?1.Each group will have 5 small beakers. Label each beaker with a light color (red, green, blue, white, and dark) AND your group name.2.Use a cork borer to cut 60 spinach leaf disks. Stack the leaves to efficiently cut multiple disks at the same time. Use a wooden stick to push the disks out of the borer. 3.Pull the plunger out of a syringe and place the 60 disks into the body of the syringe.4.At the station in the back of the room, pour enough sodium bicarbonate solution to fill the syringe into a beaker. Put the plunger back in the syringe and place the tip of the syringe into
