1 To: The Users of Physics Demonstrations From: D. P. Nairns Re: TU/PIRA Classifications - demonstrations equipment The TU/PIRA classification scheme has been in use for several years. It is an effort to classify the lecture demonstrations in a logical order. The scheme is organized on four levels: Area, Topic, Concept and Demonstration i.e. 1D60.3 The Monkey & hunter area Mechanics 1 topic Motion in 2 Dimensions D concept Projectile motion 60 demonstration Monkey & hunter .30 The required lead times for the set-up of materials before a class are noted in many of the Demo. descriptions. A lack of planning on your part will not constitute a crisis on our part. In cases of conflict we will follow the rule, first come-first served. The use of demonstration equipment requires a 72 hr. notice, and it is very strongly advised that the instructor pretest the experiment so that they feel confident in its proper use. During the past year there have been instances where demonstration equipment and A-V materials were removed from A-107 or the store room without being signed out and have not been returned - we consider these materials stolen! If you need something from A-107, please sign out for it on one of the request forms so that the material can be accounted for and there will be a fair distribution for users.
