Delta P Contingency Model  of Inhibitory Pavlovian Conditioning Inhibitory Pavlovian Conditioning develops when there  is a negative CS-US contingency  (i.e., when X < Y). When  (X < Y), then Delta P is a negative number, and  the US is associated with the absence of the CS. The change in behavior that develops as a result of  experience with negative CS-US contingency is a  Pavlovian inhibitory CR.

Inhibitory Pavlovian CR Positive CS-US contingency results in the development  of the excitatory Pavlovian CR. The inhibitory Pavlovian CR is opposite to the excitatory  Pavlovian CR. For example, if the excitatory sign-tracking CR is to  approach the lever CS, then the inhibitory sign- tracking CR is to withdraw from the vicinity of the  lever CS.
