Tajah McQueen, Madelyn Smith, Chris Philpott Biology 104 11 Bill Persons August 31, 2011 [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Title: The Scientific Process of Sun and Shade Leaf Comparison Definition of Terms: In this lab we were assigned the task of comparing sun to shade leaves to see which was bigger in width and length. This is a written report of the procedures we took and our findings. We were given a list of words to define to help us throughout the lab. The words were: observation, conclusion, experimentation, theory, and research. An observation is the process of looking at someone or something critically to gain information (Merriam-Webster). We made an observation of the sun and shade leaves for this lab. A conclusion is a result or end of a process (Merriam-Webster). After we had finished the lab, we had to come to a conclusion . Experimentation is an operation or procedure that is done in controlled conditions in order to discover an unknown effect or law, to test or establish a hypothesis, or to illustrate a known law (Merriam-Webster). We used experimentation to find out whether sun leaves or shade leaves from the trees we studied were bigger in size. Theory is a system of ideas intended to give an explanation that is usually based on general principles
