Chase Machemehl November 14, 2007 Mrs. JoAnn Scales Section 10, Thursday 1-4pm Materials Science and Engineering Vanderbilt University Nashville, TN 37235 Mohr Circle Strain Gage Determination of Stress States Dear Mrs. Scales, The following report details the results of the laboratory experiment performed on Thursday November 15, 2007. The objective of this lab was to determine the principle strains and stresses of a rosette arrangement of strain gages using the mechanical testing apparatus and the Mohr’s circle method. An aluminum alloy plate with a strain gage rosette mounted on the brad side is loaded into the perpendicular loading frame. The gage is a 45/0/45 arrangement. The students load the specimen to 500kg while taking incremental measurements of the strains using the load frame testing software. The maximum load applied must remain under the plate’s yield point, preventing plastic deformation.
