MFET 243, Lab #1 page 1 of 5 MFET 243 Laboratory Assignment #1 Fall ‘09 Working with Local I/O Objectives: In this assignment you will learn how to: z Create a new PLC program using Rockwell Software’s RSLogix 5000 PLC programming software z Configure local I/O for a discrete AC input module and a discrete AC output module z Create alias tags for the local I/O that will be used in future lab assignments z Download a PLC program z Manually test your alias tags using RSLogix5000’s tag database Preparation: It is assumed that your Instructor has discussed and demonstrated the key points outlined in the presentation entitled “Working with Local I/O.” Refer to the power point presentation “Working with Local I/O” while performing this lab assignment. Phase 1: Background : In this phase you will create a new PLC program and then configure the local I/O for the ControlLogix PLCs located at each dropline of the MFET conveyor system. Proceed as follows : 1) If you have not already done so, create a shortcut to RSLogix 5000 and place the shortcut on your computer’s desktop. 2) Start RSLogix 5000 by double clicking on the shortcut created in step 1. 3) Save your new PLC program into your lab group folder located on the G drive (or your H drive if the folders on the G drive have not been created yet). Name the program “lab1.ACD”.
