MFET 248, Lab 1 page 1 of 6 MFET 248 Laboratory Assignment #1 Spring 2010 Introduction to The Adept Robot Objectives: The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate the process of how to develop and test an Adept robot program. In this assignment, all Adept robot programming will be accomplished using Windows Notepad. Preparation: Refer to the following documentation, as needed: Introduction to The Adept Robot Programming The Adept Robot Adept V+ manuals available at www.adept.com Background: In this assignment you will work with a computer hard disk assembly. Figure 1 illustrates the hard disk assembly. Figure 1 – Hard Disk Assembly Disk #1 Disk #3 Spacer (1 of 2) Disk #2 Notes concerning Figure 1: The top disk is disk 1, the middle disk is disk 2, and the bottom disk is disk 3. Spacers are attached to disks 2 and 3. Disk 1 does not have a spacer. The PLC program : In this assignment you will use the PLC program developed in MFET 243 laboratory assignment #6 - Programming The MFET Conveyor System, Part 1 (Fall 2009). Using a pallet carrying a hard disk assembly, run the dropline conveyor using the PLC program developed in MFET 243.

MFET 248, Lab 1 page 2 of 6 Your PLC program will raise the pallet on the shot pin device. Recall how you programmed the shot pin device in MFET 243: When a pallet arrives at PS2, delay for 3 seconds (in order to let the pallet get “settled”) and then raise the pallet on the shot pin device. Lower the shot pins when RPB0 (located on the pushbutton RediPANEL) is pressed on the pushbutton RediPANEL. During the entire time that the pallet is raised on the shot pins, turn on the light that is built into pushbutton RPB0. The light must be turned off when the shot pin device goes back down. Note that EACH PALLET ARRIVING AT PS2 SHOULD ONLY BE RAISED BY THE SHOT PIN DEVICE ONE TIME ! When pushbutton RPB0 is pushed the pallet must be lowered by the shot pin device and then PS2 will lower (if PE4 is off and the RAM is in its home position) in order to let the pallet move upstream – the same pallet must never be raised on the shot pins more than one time. Control the rest of the conveyor drop line as you did in MFET 243.
