MFET 474, Lab #1 page 1 of 12 MFET 474 Laboratory Assignment #1 Fall ‘09 Working with ControlLogix Analog Input Data Objectives: In this assignment you will learn how to configure and read analog data from the 1756-IF16 ControlLogix analog input module. Preparation: Refer to the power point presentation “ControlLogix Analog Inputs” as necessary. In addition, download the following ControlLogix manuals from Allen-Bradley’s web site: The 1756-IF16 users manual (publication 1756-UM009B-EN-P-June 2003) The Logix5000 Controllers General Instructions (publication 1756-RM003G-EN-P-June 2003) Place the downloaded files in your G: drive and refer to them while implementing the phases shown below. Background: In this assignment you will work with the offline ControlLogix PLCs (not the ControlLogix PLCs located at the conveyor). In phase 1 you will wire the output of a DC power supply to channel 0 of the 1756-IF16 analog input module. The power supply’s output will simulate the analog output of a sensor. Each offline ControlLogix PLC system will employ a 1756-DH/RIO (Data Highway Plus/Remote I/O) module. The 1756-DH/RIO module supports two communications channels (or com ports) that are identified as channel A and channel B. In this assignment the 1756-DH/RIO module will be configured as follows: Channel A : This channel is setup for Data Highway Plus (DH+). In this assignment PLC programs will be downloaded to the Logix5555 controller using Ethernet (thus, channel A will not be used).

MFET 474, Lab #1 page 2 of 12 Channel B : This channel will be configured for universal remote I/O. In this assignment, the keypad RediPANEL will be wired to channel B of the 1756-DH/RIO module. Using DIP switches located on the back of the keypad RediPANEL, the RediPANEL has been configured: As a full rack (8 input image table words and 8 output image table words) As rack #2 on the remote I/O link. Phase 1: In this phase you will wire the output of a DC power supply to an analog input on the 1756-IF16 analog input module. The power supply’s output will simulate the analog output of a sensor. The output of the power supply will be manually adjusted from 0-to-10 volts. In this phase you will need the following tools to complete this phase: Digital multimeter Wire Wire strippers Small screw driver Proceed as follows : Wire the output of the DC power supply to channel 0 of the 1756-IF16 analog input module as follows: 1) Using the meter which is built into the DC power supply, set the power supply’s output to 0 volts. 2) Turn OFF the DC power supply. 3) Turn OFF the ControlLogix power supply. 4) Using the 1756-IF16’s DIFFERENTIAL VOLTAGE MODE , wire the output of the DC power supply to channel 0 of the analog input module.
