MFET 474, Lab #2 page 1 of 17 MFET 474 Laboratory Assignment #2 Fall ‘09 Working with Analog Data Objectives: In this assignment you will learn how to: Monitor sensor data in RSLogix5000 using a Quick Watch. Monitor sensor data using Microsoft Excel. Chart data using RSLogix5000. Preparation: It is assumed you have completed lab #1 “Using a PLC Analog Input Module.” Background: In this assignment you will continue to work with the offline ControlLogix PLCs. In lab #1 you wired the output of a DC power supply to channel 0 of the 1756-IF16 analog input module. The power supply’s output simulated the analog output of a sensor. This wiring will be used in this assignment. In phases 1 and 2 you will learn how to display sensor data in an Excel spreadsheet using DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange). In phases 3 and 4 you will chart sensor data using RSLogix5000. Phase 1: In this phase you will monitor sensor data using: a) A Quick Watch in RSLogix5000, and b) Microsoft Excel In lab #1 you wired the output of a DC power supply to channel 0 of the 1756-IF16. The supply was wired as a differential voltage input. Start with your phase 4 program from lab #1. Configure the analog input module as follows: Use a deadband of 50 psi. Do NOT latch any alarms.

page 2 of 17 Proceed as follows: Step 1 - Monitor the pressure as it varies from 0 to 1000 psi using an RSLogix5000 Quick Watch: a) While online and the PLC in the run mode, select Watch from the View menu: b) Set up a Quick Watch in order to monitor the pressure as it varies from 0 to 1000 psi: Recall in lab #1 you created an alias tag named “WR_Analog_CH0” (data type = Real). You also converted this data into an integer in order to display the data on the Keypad RediPANEL. Display the integer value in the Quick Watch as shown above. *** Demonstrate this to your Instructor ***
